Doctors Deserve Better Business Education at Aesthetic Conferences

I spend a lot of time on planes.
Over the years, I’ve travelled around the world speaking at aesthetic medicine conferences, brand events and workshops. It takes time, preparation and often means fitting consultancy work around some fairly punishing travel schedules.
So why do I keep doing it?
Because I believe business education deserves a proper place at aesthetic medicine conferences. And if doctors and clinic owners are giving up their time to attend our sessions, we have a responsibility to make that education worth listening to.

Why Business Education at Aesthetic Conferences matters
Clinical education has always been at the heart of aesthetic medicine conferences. Business education is becoming a much bigger part of them too.
That’s important. Being an excellent doctor, surgeon or practitioner doesn’t automatically teach you how to run a successful business. But I also think we need to raise the bar.
I still see presentations covering information that is incredibly basic or has been shared many times before. I see people move into popular subjects with very little experience behind what they are teaching. And sometimes the most useful information is held back for the paid course, programme or service afterwards.
Doctors deserve better than that.
I don't hide the useful information
If someone has travelled to a conference, taken time away from their clinic and chosen to spend 20 or 30 minutes listening to me, I want them to leave with something they can actually use.
My content comes from more than 18 years in aesthetic medicine and from the work I continue to do with clinics, doctors, surgeons, brands, manufacturers and distributors.
That means sharing what I’m seeing now. How patients are changing. Why they buy and why they don’t. Why happy patients leave. Where clinics lose potential patients. How commercial decisions go wrong. How technology and AI are changing the patient journey.
I share the frameworks, examples and practical detail because I don’t believe the best information should be saved for behind a paywall.
Speaking internationally matters to me too
Working in different countries has also made me far better at what I do.
What works in the UK doesn’t necessarily work in Dubai, Bangkok, Seoul or Miami. Patient expectations, commercial pressures, attitudes towards selling and the way people make decisions can be very different. Those conversations challenge my own thinking and give me a much broader view of the aesthetic market. I might be there to speak, but I’m also there to listen and learn.
What should someone take away from a business session?
For me, the test is simple:
Can someone do something differently because they listened to you?
Can they spot something in their business they hadn't noticed before? Ask a better question? Handle a patient conversation differently? Reconsider a commercial decision?
If the answer is yes, the session has done its job.
That is why I keep developing new material, why I share as much as I can when I’m given a platform and why I’ll keep getting on those planes.
Doctors deserve useful, current and experienced business education, and I believe those of us invited to deliver it have a responsibility to provide it.
